What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is an educational communication that flows from your conscious mind to your unconscious mind and allows them both to believe the same message.

This is valuable communication, because in order to attain our goals, our conscious and unconscious mind must agree. For instance, if consciously you are saying to yourself, "I want to lose 30 lbs.", and your subconscious is saying, "I like this extra padding, it keeps people from approaching me and I feel less vulnerable and threatened", you are going to hang on to that weight, or you may lose it for a while and gain it right back. Your subconscious must be in agreement with your conscious desires and goals to be successful.

How is Hypnotherapy different from Hypnosis ? They are one and the same. They are interchangeable terms. However, I use Hypnotherapy because I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and utilize my counseling skills when I work with my clients to help solve their difficulties and reach their goals.
Hypnosis is a very quick, easy and effective counseling tool.  It helps my clients reach their goals faster, with less struggle. It reinforces their strengths and assists them to focus on Positive Thoughts.

What about Stage Hypnosis? Stage hypnosis is the most common impression of hypnosis. This is the entertainment where a Hypnotist leads people into doing things on stage such as clucking like a chicken, or dancing, etc. Keep in mind that these people volunteer for this and they secretly want to be on stage, and perform for the audience. You have to be willing to be hypnotized. You cannot be hypnotized against your will.

Hypnosis takes you to the same level of relaxation and focus as does deep Meditation. You are in the same brain wave length when in deep meditation as when you are in Hypnosis. Both are deeply relaxing and pleasant. Hypnotherapy utilizes this relaxation state to focus and commit your mind more deeply to your goals by means of positive suggestions. You are always in control when you are in hypnosis. Hypnosis does not change your morals, ethics, or religious beliefs, only the ideas you are wanting to change such as being a Nonsmoker, getting rid of a bad habit, finding and appreciating  your strengths, letting go of unwanted pounds, feeling more confident in your abilities, etc.

It is a Healthy and relaxing experience that you are participating in for your own Self Improvement.

What Does Hypnosis Feel Like?

When you are in Hypnosis, you feel very, very relaxed, as relaxed as when you are asleep, only you are still awake. You are always in control, and aware of your surroundings if you care to be.
Hypnosis can feel like deep meditation, daydreaming, and how you feel just before you fall asleep.

All of these states of mind are similar to what is experienced in hypnosis. We have all experienced daydreaming. When we are daydreaming, we are deeply involved in the scenery of our daydream and although we are aware of our surroundings, being in a classroom for instance, we are choosing not to attend to the classroom around us during our daydreaming experience.

What is Trance or “under” Hypnosis ? Trance is that daydream-like state that is induced in hypnosis. It feels very pleasant, carefree and deeply restful. Being in hypnosis trance is relaxing and refreshing, like a great afternoon nap. Being “under” hypnosis, or going “under” hypnosis is the same as being “in” hypnosis or hypnotic trance state. The term “under” is not readily used now because it gives the idea that you are “under” someone else’s control. As you recall, you cannot be hypnotized unless you want to be hypnotized, so you are never “under” someone else’s control, you are as in control as you choose to be when practicing hypnosis.

Hypnsis takes your mind to the same level of relaxation as you would attain practicing deep meditation, and all of the benefits.

Hypnosis is a very natural, pleasant, safe and effective tool for self improvement, self empowerment, controlling your level of relaxation and effectively reaching the goals you desire.

Being Mindful with Anger

Excellent New York Times article on Minfulness and Anger. Hypnosis can be an easier way to the same destination as deep meditation. Hypnosis is excellent for Anger management, stress, anxiety and PTSD. Diaphragmatic Breathing, Deep Belly Breathing is essential in emotional mindfulness and getting control of anger feelings. We can be mindful enough to make choices about our behaviors and verbal responses to anger feelings. Anger can be expressed in proactive and beneficial ways, through Assertive Communication for instance. These things can be learned easily and quickly. Hypnosis is Healthy, Natural, and Relaxing.

Anger can be a natural, life-affirming emotion, if you let it be.

What are we saying to Ourselves?

Positive Self Talk: We all talk to ourselves. It's How we talk to ourselves that makes the difference in our Happiness and Success. See this Psychology Today Article:
The Voice of Reason

Everyone engages in self-talk. But much depends on the way we do it. Scientists now find that the right words can free us from our fears and make us as wise about ourselves as we often are about others.

Perfect Yoga Pose for Relaxation and Anti-Anxiety

Magarasana:  Crocodile

The Perfect yoga pose for retraining your body to Relaxation Breathing Naturally.

Breathing normally and naturally is Very important to your level of relaxation and calmness; very important to your overall health.

When we breathe high in the chest area, we are not getting a full natural breath. Even if you breathe faster or slower, if you are breathing high in your chest (your upper chest, ribs and shoulders are moving when you breathe) you are not getting enough air. This will contribute to your stress, anxiety and fear level.

Normal Natural breath is a Diaphragmatic Breath or a Relaxation Breath, as I like to call it. This breath originates from the diaphragm muscle, which is located  across the body below the lungs. When you are breathing normally your stomach area below the rib cage and above the navel will rise and fall. The Diaphragmatic Breathe originates here.

For example, when you watch a toddler running around in their diaper, you will notice that their nice round little belly is easily and freely moving in and out. You do not see their upper chest, ribs and shoulders heaving up and down, right?
This is because they haven't yet experienced any trauma or drama in their lives. Observe this phenomenon the next chance you get.

Some people have been breathing so long in a "Fight, Flight or Freeze" breathe that they have difficulty getting back to a normal breath. For those people there is a simple exercise:
The Crocodile

This is a simple Relaxing yoga pose that anyone can do.

1.    First lay on your belly on the floor.  Put your legs about a few feet apart. Drop your heels inward,                     or move your legs to what is a comfortable position for you.

2.    Next put you arms in front of you, so that your upper chest is off the ground and hold onto your elbows, making a square with your arms. Rest your forehead on you top arm. Close your eyes and Relax, Breathe.

3.Notice that you feel only your legs, hips and lower abdomen on the floor.

This position provides a gentle compression to your lower stomach and abdomen that provides you with physical feedback on your diaphragmatic breathing. It helps you learn to do this correctly.

The gentle compression is very soothing and comforting. Slow and deepen your breathing.

This is a beautiful yoga pose for Self Calming and Restoring Natural Relaxed breathing. It is helpful for headache relief and calming digestion.

Strongly recommended for the treatment of Stress and Anxiety.

Holiday Thoughts

Holidays can bring personal challenges:

One year, when I was a child, my father got drunk and violent at Christmas. I had just unwrapped a present, a bottle of hand lotion, when he exploded in an alcoholic rage. Our Christmas was disrupted. It was terrible. It was frightening for the whole family. Now, thirty-five years later, whenever I smell hand lotion, I immediately feel all the feelings I did that Christmas
—Anonymous
There are many positive triggers that remind us of Christmas: snow, decorations, “Silent Night,” “Jingle Bells,” wrapped packages, a nativity scene, stockings hung on a fireplace. These “triggers” can evoke in us the warm, nostalgic feelings of the Christmas celebration.
There are other kinds of triggers, though, that may be less apparent and evoke different feelings and memories.
Our mind is like a powerful computer. It links sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste with feelings, thoughts, and memories. It links our senses—and we remember.
Sometimes the smallest, most innocuous incident can trigger memories. Not all our memories are pleasant, especially if we grew up in an alcoholic, dysfunctional setting.
We may not understand why we suddenly feel afraid, depressed, anxious. We may not understand what has triggered our codependent coping behaviors—the low self-worth, the need to control, the need to neglect ourselves. When that happens, we need to understand that some innocuous event may be triggering memories recorded deep within us.
If something, even something we don’t understand, triggers painful memories, we can pull ourselves back into the present by self-care: acknowledging our feelings, detaching, working the Steps, and affirming ourselves. We can take action to feel good. We can help ourselves feel better each Christmas. No matter what the past held, we can put it in perspective, and create a more pleasant holiday today.
Today, I will gently work through my memories of this holiday season. I will accept my feelings, even if I consider them different than what others are feeling this holiday. God, help me let go, heal from, and release the painful memories surrounding the holidays. Help me finish my business from the past, so I can create the holiday of my choice.

Moving Out of Your Comfort Zone

Neale Donald Walsh

Recently, I watched two hypnotists move out of their comfort zone. Braving natural anxiety, they opened doors to new personally and financially rewarding work.  Their joy showed me there is nothing like that high we get when we overcome fear and reach our goal!
But it's scary to move out of our comfort zone. It takes courage to try something new, so Courage is essential to grow and change.  It's the irrational or self-limiting beliefs that are the barriers to being where we want to be or from being be who we wish to be. Here are some thoughts about blowing through barriers to reach that high by tapping into your courage.
  •   Evaluation:  Ask yourself, "Do I really believe this activity is worth doing despite any discomfort I might experience? Doubts will equal self- sabotage.
  •  Resolve ambivalence:  Accept there is usually a cost for a reward.  What is truly free?   Ask; "What am I willing to risk or give up to do this?"
  •  Create a new goal and mental picture: Imagine the goal as if it is already completed. See, feel experience what will it is like. How you feel? Who benefits?  Set the dates for completion of each
Now if ready to "own the package"? Take off!  Move forward!  Take action.
  • Immerse yourself in the project---even if it is only an hour a day, make your effort consistent.
  • Become an expert---Expand your knowledge; UTUBE AND INTERNET are good sources.
  •  Make it yours---Use it, talk about it until it is incorporated in your thoughts.
  • Actively seek mentors, even if by email! Most experts happily share their knowledge.
  • Perhaps a partner would be helpful in your endeavor? Determine who can help you.
  •  Then apply action to achieving each step. Check off each completed goal on a check list.

And when (not if) a potential barrier pops up, problem solve and motivate yourself with thoughts of all the benefits you and others will receive.  Then as Winston Churchill said,
"Success is not final. Failure is not final.
It is the courage to continue that counts."
Reach inside, kindle that spark of courage and fill your thoughts with the joy ofsharing your skill.

Many Ways of Healing© by Okka

What if there were as many different approaches to healing and well-being as there are roads leading to Rome, and yet all healing would be self-healing?

Let us for a moment, think about health as a state of balance and illness or disease as a state of imbalance. And let us further assume that our body is capable of maintaining a state of balance. And even when we feel sick or are challenged with a disease, even then most of our billions and billions of cells are functioning properly and healthy. Our body somehow knows how to maintain a balance while constantly and simultaneously millions of inter- and intracellular processes take place. The simple fact that tears cried due to happiness have quite a different chemical consistence than tears cried from pain or grief shows us how amazingly differentiated our bodily responses are and how much inner wisdom our body has. And it is ours to access.

Now, when health is a state of balance and disease is a state of imbalance, and then healing is the process of re-turning to a balanced state. This means the body is working to re-establish harmony while using all available sources to reach this goal. Would it therefore be appropriate - and in a sense, be respectful toward ourselves, to see all healing as self-healing?

What would it be like when we were to change our point of view and intentionally utilize the healing powers within; while using the various forms of treatments and approaches as possibilities to assist us on the road of self-healing?

Through a study done by the Institute of Heart Math it was discovered that the DNA changes it shape according to feelings felt by the researchers. When gratitude, love, and appreciation were felt, the DNA responded by relaxing, the strands unwound and the DNA became longer. When the researchers felt anger, fear, frustration, or stress, the DNA responded by tightening up, becoming shorter and even switching off some of the DNA codes. This effect was reversed and the codes were switched on again when feelings of love, joy, and appreciation were felt by the researchers.

What have these results to do with healing and self-healing? Each cell in our body has a strand of DNA, within which - among many other things - the information of a healthy, properly functioning cell is located. And since we are in charge of what to think or feel, we can support our healing process by learning to relax - regardless of the environment - and use all our senses and abilities to envision and feel the perfect outcome.
