Sleep

To Eat, Perchance To Sleep

When you eat, perhaps as much as what you eat, has a direct impact on sleep and wake cycles set by the brain.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is an educational communication that flows from your conscious mind to your unconscious mind and allows them both to believe the same message.

This is valuable communication, because in order to attain our goals, our conscious and unconscious mind must agree. For instance, if consciously you are saying to yourself, "I want to lose 30 lbs.", and your subconscious is saying, "I like this extra padding, it keeps people from approaching me and I feel less vulnerable and threatened", you are going to hang on to that weight, or you may lose it for a while and gain it right back. Your subconscious must be in agreement with your conscious desires and goals to be successful.

How is Hypnotherapy different from Hypnosis ? They are one and the same. They are interchangeable terms. However, I use Hypnotherapy because I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and utilize my counseling skills when I work with my clients to help solve their difficulties and reach their goals.
Hypnosis is a very quick, easy and effective counseling tool.  It helps my clients reach their goals faster, with less struggle. It reinforces their strengths and assists them to focus on Positive Thoughts.

What about Stage Hypnosis? Stage hypnosis is the most common impression of hypnosis. This is the entertainment where a Hypnotist leads people into doing things on stage such as clucking like a chicken, or dancing, etc. Keep in mind that these people volunteer for this and they secretly want to be on stage, and perform for the audience. You have to be willing to be hypnotized. You cannot be hypnotized against your will.

Hypnosis takes you to the same level of relaxation and focus as does deep Meditation. You are in the same brain wave length when in deep meditation as when you are in Hypnosis. Both are deeply relaxing and pleasant. Hypnotherapy utilizes this relaxation state to focus and commit your mind more deeply to your goals by means of positive suggestions. You are always in control when you are in hypnosis. Hypnosis does not change your morals, ethics, or religious beliefs, only the ideas you are wanting to change such as being a Nonsmoker, getting rid of a bad habit, finding and appreciating  your strengths, letting go of unwanted pounds, feeling more confident in your abilities, etc.

It is a Healthy and relaxing experience that you are participating in for your own Self Improvement.

What Does Hypnosis Feel Like?

When you are in Hypnosis, you feel very, very relaxed, as relaxed as when you are asleep, only you are still awake. You are always in control, and aware of your surroundings if you care to be.
Hypnosis can feel like deep meditation, daydreaming, and how you feel just before you fall asleep.

All of these states of mind are similar to what is experienced in hypnosis. We have all experienced daydreaming. When we are daydreaming, we are deeply involved in the scenery of our daydream and although we are aware of our surroundings, being in a classroom for instance, we are choosing not to attend to the classroom around us during our daydreaming experience.

What is Trance or “under” Hypnosis ? Trance is that daydream-like state that is induced in hypnosis. It feels very pleasant, carefree and deeply restful. Being in hypnosis trance is relaxing and refreshing, like a great afternoon nap. Being “under” hypnosis, or going “under” hypnosis is the same as being “in” hypnosis or hypnotic trance state. The term “under” is not readily used now because it gives the idea that you are “under” someone else’s control. As you recall, you cannot be hypnotized unless you want to be hypnotized, so you are never “under” someone else’s control, you are as in control as you choose to be when practicing hypnosis.

Hypnsis takes your mind to the same level of relaxation as you would attain practicing deep meditation, and all of the benefits.

Hypnosis is a very natural, pleasant, safe and effective tool for self improvement, self empowerment, controlling your level of relaxation and effectively reaching the goals you desire.

Positive Self Talk
What Do You Say When You Talk to Yourself?

Positive Self Talk is the number ONE way to Self Improvement, with a minimum investment in time, and the convenience of always being available for you to utilize.

Negative Self Talk does nothing. That's it. Nothing. It doesn't make you feel good. It doesn't make you try harder. It doesn't motivate you. It doesn't make you do better next time. It probably reinforces negativity in you life even more.

Positive Self Talk makes you feel better. It releases the natural feel good chemical Serotonin into your blood stream. It Motivates you. It makes you work harder. It makes you Do better next time. It improves your performance in anything you are working on.
It gives you a positive outlook and improves your life satisfaction immensely.

How do we formulate Positive Self Talk Statement?

1.    Always make the statement in a Positive form.

Example: I always eat small portions of Healthy foods.
versus: I don't eat cake.

Try this... "Don't think about the Peach."

What are you thinking about?  ...  the Peach. Right?
Your subconscious mind does not do negatives. Put all statement in positive terms.

2. Alway put statements in the first person.

Example: I will,  I am,  I do,  My life is,

3. Always in the present tense, as if the goal is already accomplished.

Example: I always eat healthy.  I sleep straight through the might.
I always make the hills on my bike.

"Try not. Do or do not, there is no try."

-- Yoda

Try means = NEVER

Avoid words: Try, would, Could, should, Not, don't.

For example while biking if I say, "I'm going to try to make that hill." Will I make the hill?
No, I will not. I'm only kidding myself. However, after much experimentation, if I tell myself, "I make all the hills. I aways make the hills." I do make the hill, every time.
In fact I have now added, "All hills are doable." A new experience for me.

If you want to super-charge your positive self talk add the word "Love" to your positive affirmation. For Instance: "I love hill climbing, I love the hills."  Even after 100 miles, 10,000 feet of climbing, and "the wall", I was still climbing very comfortably.
I love the hills.

Examples of Positive Self Talk:

Everyone wants to buy what I am selling today.
I always make this putt. I am a perfect putter, I make all my putts.
I weigh 125 lbs. I always eat small portions of healthy foods.
I am a great presenter. I enjoy presenting. I am calm and relaxed when I present.

How do we Change negative self talk into Positive Self Talk?

Pick out 2 to 4positive self talk statements that are your goals. Repeat them to yourself.
Notice negative self talk, change the statement 180 degrees and turn it into a positive statement. Repeat it 3 times either out loud or to yourself, whenever it occurs. The negative statement will go away, the positive statement will replace it.

Best Times to Use Positive Self Talk:

Right before you fall asleep.
Right when you open your eyes in the morning.
This is the time when your sub conscious mind is most accessible, most open to suggestion.

Positive Self Talk

The easiest way to improve yourself and your life, as you live it.
Positive Self Talk is the most portable, easy to use, self improvement tool there is.
It is always with you wherever you go. You do not need to take even 20 minutes out of your day to use it. You can use it on the fly. You get the benefits and positive effects of it immediately with use. And you feel good while doing it.

Happy thoughts!

Recharging Your Battery

When your feeling low energy, run down, listless, or just plain blah...
Here are some things to do to get recharged:

1. Take a non-purposeful walk in nature. Not for the sole purpose of exercise, but a walk just for entertainment. Notice nature while you walk. Notice squirrels, birds, your neighbors gardens and homes. Relax while you walk. walking is very soothing to the mind and body. It naturally induces a meditative state, soothing even sore muscles and tight backs and shoulders. Fresh air is rejuvinating as well.

2. Notice feelings. Are you unhappy? Is there something in your life that is not a good fit? Is it time to change that? Write those feelings down on paper and explore them. Sometimes this helps in defining the core of the unhappiness. Then take a new page and write down ideally how you want that job, person, daily life to be. Only write "what you do want". Write only the postives.

3. Take yourself on a one day holiday, "Me Day". Call in sick to work. Take yourself out to breakfast or lunch, read the newspaper lesuirely and watch the other people go off to work. Take yourself to a movie. Take a leisurely bubble bath. Do what you want to do for a day. Taking a "Me Day" often has the positive benefit of heading off a cold or illness that will then force you to take one to several days off work when you're feeling run down.

4. Always focus on the positive. Happiness is a choice. Focus on the first postive thing you think of, (I saw a Robin on my lawn today), and build from there. We are what we think about most of the time. Focusing on postive thoughts increases the seratonin and endorphins in our system and elevates out mood naturally. We feel better when we think better.

Emotional Coping Strategies

Journaling – Write about your thoughts and feelings in a notebook. Retell your experience of what you thought, felt and experienced about an event in the greatest detail. Give yourself the permission to express your opinion without censoring or concerns about what others would think about what you’ve written. This notebook is for your eyes only and to share only if you wish to.

Letter Writing – Write a letter to someone with the intention that the letter will never be sent to them. This allows you to express your thoughts and feelings very truthfully as you are injuring no one with your candid expressions of how you feel and what you think.

Positive Affirmations / Positive Self Talk – Use positive statements of your goals and desires. Statements that are stated in the first person, and present time, in a positive manner. These statements are stated in such a way as if the goal is already accomplished.
(Examples: I am a Non-smoker; I eat healthy foods; I enjoy daily excercise; I am calm and relaxed).

Assertiveness – Practice stating how you feel about an event or interaction with another person. Use the formula: 1. Name the behavior. 2. State how that makes you feel. 3.State how you want their behavior to change. (Example: When you speak to me in that tone of voice, it makes me feel angry and defensive. Please use a calm tone of voice when you need to tell me how to do something).

Take Time – Take time to respond to an emotional situation. You do not have to respond to situations immediately. Taking time gives you a chance to sort out your feelings and make a choice about how you respond and what you choose to say to someone. Even if it takes a month or a year to sort out your feelings regarding an incident. It is never to late to return to the subject and process it, telling someone how you feel about it and the effect it had on you.

Many Ways of Healing© by Okka

What if there were as many different approaches to healing and well-being as there are roads leading to Rome, and yet all healing would be self-healing?

Let us for a moment, think about health as a state of balance and illness or disease as a state of imbalance. And let us further assume that our body is capable of maintaining a state of balance. And even when we feel sick or are challenged with a disease, even then most of our billions and billions of cells are functioning properly and healthy. Our body somehow knows how to maintain a balance while constantly and simultaneously millions of inter- and intracellular processes take place. The simple fact that tears cried due to happiness have quite a different chemical consistence than tears cried from pain or grief shows us how amazingly differentiated our bodily responses are and how much inner wisdom our body has. And it is ours to access.

Now, when health is a state of balance and disease is a state of imbalance, and then healing is the process of re-turning to a balanced state. This means the body is working to re-establish harmony while using all available sources to reach this goal. Would it therefore be appropriate - and in a sense, be respectful toward ourselves, to see all healing as self-healing?

What would it be like when we were to change our point of view and intentionally utilize the healing powers within; while using the various forms of treatments and approaches as possibilities to assist us on the road of self-healing?

Through a study done by the Institute of Heart Math it was discovered that the DNA changes it shape according to feelings felt by the researchers. When gratitude, love, and appreciation were felt, the DNA responded by relaxing, the strands unwound and the DNA became longer. When the researchers felt anger, fear, frustration, or stress, the DNA responded by tightening up, becoming shorter and even switching off some of the DNA codes. This effect was reversed and the codes were switched on again when feelings of love, joy, and appreciation were felt by the researchers.

What have these results to do with healing and self-healing? Each cell in our body has a strand of DNA, within which - among many other things - the information of a healthy, properly functioning cell is located. And since we are in charge of what to think or feel, we can support our healing process by learning to relax - regardless of the environment - and use all our senses and abilities to envision and feel the perfect outcome.
